London Canal Museum and …

What a busy day. I was only planning to visit a small London Canal Museum, near King’s Cross station, however this small trip went on and on.
London Canal Museum is a lovely place, which is a bit hidden and forgotten when comparing to big, full of tourists London’s museums. It has its own atmosphere and you can find there people who are dedicated to this place. You can learn there about history of Regent’s Canal, about horses that pulled the narrowboats, about ice cream trade and much more.
The London Canal Museum website is very informative and there are plenty events like canal walks, narrowboat trips, fun with ice so check it for details before the visit.
I was well surprised and…

I went on the free lunch-time guided Canal Walk. Pre-booking is recommended, however friendly tour guide didn’t turn away people without booking.
The sun was up and the walk was amazing and very interesting.

The guided tour also tells you about development changes in Kings Cross area.
You can climb up the platform view and see it yourself!

After a great walk I decided to visit the Camley Street Natural Park, which is just two minutes from King’s Cross station. As similar to the London Canal Museum it is a bit hidden and a secret place, but a green nature in the heart of London. It is a two acre nature reserve with big pond, plenty of herbs, trees, minibeasts, birds and a place to relax without traffic, trains or building side nearby.

Five minutes from the Camley Street Natural Park another hidden place St Pancras Garden.
It is a restored park with old church and gravestones. There is also a bench dedicated to The Beatles as they were photographed there for their single Hey Jude and The White Album.

On the end – walk through the canal towards Camden to have some well deserved meal.
This time Polish sausage and cabbage and wild mushrooms ‘pierogi’ (they called them Pierogies) and also a lovely coffee at Ruby Dock served by very focused barista. Yummy!

Brighton Pier

Brighton

Another Pier, this time in Brighton. To get to Brighton may not be expensive, as Southern Railway offers good deals, especially off – peak.
Smell of fish and chips is everywhere and Brighton Pier comparing to Southend Pier if full of people. Both got a long history, however Brighton Pier was quickly used for a commercial use. It was open in 1823 and went through a lot, once even was rebuild due to strong storm. Together with West Pier made The Royal Suspension Chain Pier. First theme park machines were there in 1905 and another entertainments on the pier are Casino, fortune tellers, kiosks selling souvenirs, confectionary and entertainment stalls with games and of course fish and chips. However don’t buy ice-cream or any snack on the pier – sea goals with definitely catch it, I’ve seen in myself! They’re not scared and they are very hungry!

The West Pier wasn’t that fortunate as now it’s only leftover construction due to fires and storms. However there are big plans to rebuild the pier. It is a long term aim as first Brighton is building a new tourist attraction i360, an observation tower on the beach. More details and photos here: Brighton i360. It looks very impressive!

Some street art in Brighton, including Banksy…

Brighton is great… but it’s a shame no sand on the beach, pebbles are great too, but sand would be perfect!

Southend Pier

brickmum

Southend Pier is the world’s longest pier! It was opened in 1889 and its 1.341 miles long! The Pier survived a lot, such as two world wars, boat crashes, waves, fires and economic decline.

The walk on the pier is great on a sunny day, if is raining you can take an electric train! yes, train on a pier, that’s a great idea.

There is also a tiny museum, located inside the Pier’s entrance, where you can see photographs of the pier from previous years, restored Pier signal box and even old train carriages and old penny slot machine. However the museum is open until the end of September, so be quick to visit. In the same building there is also a Visitor Information Centre.

On the end of the pier there is The Royal Pavilion, opened in 2012 with variety of events and a cafe.
On the pier there is also the RNLI lifeboat station, gift shop and a deck to sit down.

Love it every time…

brickmum

Rainy day! It’s raining all day, but it’s Saturday and time for Broadway Market. Perfect place for lunch, so yummy and so many choices of food and coffee. First a walk through the rain on Regent Canal and another Alo found!

The Broadway Market runs every Saturday from 9am to 5pm since 1890! The rain is not stopping anyone and the market is full of good flavours and tasty food.
Today I have had a lovely risotto with wild mushrooms, parmesan and rocket mhmmm.
Then I bought crusty bread and some Chanterelle’s (wild mushrooms) !

Broadway Market is a place for street art, some original, vintage shops and a beer in a pub.

Another Alo and Shoreditch

Alo

Alo

This Alo was found on Bethnal Green Road, near Brick Lane.

Alo – earlier work:

Walk through Shoreditch is always fun and you need your phone charged as there are many spots to take a picture.

It was worth to buy this ticket – Horse Meat Disco on the roof near Liverpool Street, then afterparty at Xoyo. This time Dimitri from Paris, James Hillard, Hannah Holland, dOp, Severino, Luke Howard and many more. Perfect weather and perfect venue choice.

Horse Meat Disco

James Hillard was amazing on the roof of the Southplace Hotel, check him out on Soundcloud as his Disco inspired sets are amazing.

Next was Hannah Holland [@hannahholland], Londons finest female Dj and producer. She frequently plays around Shoreditch, dropping batty beats around East End.

Hannah Holland

Check her Soundcloud profile here:

One of the tracks she played on the rooftop. Have a look at the dresses – I love it (the purple one especially)!

And song of the night – SMILE:

Cable Car

Two different cities, two different skies and two different cable cars!

Cable Car London  Cable Car Barcelona

London’s Cable Car is really great fun, especially if you are planning to go to o2. Officially London’s Cable Car is known as ‘The Emirates Air Line’ and goes across the River Thames in East London. Journey time is only five minutes, however from 10am to 3pm the journey is ten minutes so that people can have more time to see the views. Each car can take up to ten people and you can also take on board a bicycle! The cost of cable car is affordable and if you are holding a valid Travelcard or Oyster you can get a 25% discount off the fares, check website for details: Transport for London. I love it everytime!

Barcelona’s Cable car is a completely different experience! It is based in iconic port and it is called Port Cable Car. The experience is breathtaking and scary! The journey starts with a lift ride to the top of the tower, where you can take great pictures of whole city clearly, there are toilets and place to buy a cold drink before a cable car journey, which is well needed. The journey is about ten minutes and the car goes from the port to the Montjuic mountains. It is unforgettable experience, your adrenaline will jump! Ticket costs eleven Euro one way, but definitely worth a journey!
