Open House London – 30 Crown Place

brickmum

Another place discovered at Open House London.
30 Crown Place is a bit hidden in the area as there are plenty of higher buildings around in the City.
It is a sixteen storey glass office building (on one side only, on other side fourteen) with three terraces between with London view. The form of the building is unusual, like big elephant and a small elephant as described by our guide. The building was also seen on TV series “Spooks” and James Bond.
Great experience and the terrace with a massive BBQ .. wow
In front of the building they were few guys with skateboards jumping over concrete benches.

Design facts:The curved pixilated facades are designed to ‘float’ off the volumetric form of the building emphasising its form and surface rather than floors. The projecting feathered ends of the curved over-sailing ‘screen’ facades make an unusual but successful transition between earth, building and sky.

Gaudi

Barcelona
Trip to Barcelona is MUST to really experience Gaudi fever! I knew about Gaudi, however I was never aware of how many buildings he designed. His work is all over the Barcelona and one of his biggest masterpieces is Sagrada Familia, still unfinished. The designs for his buildings were very imaginative; with their curving lines, colours, patterns they often seemed like unusual plants.

The Park Guell is breathtaking with the Barcelona view, Spanish music, Palm Trees, Gaudi mosaics and buildings. Amazing.

Amsterdam

brickmum

I love being a tourist, however this time only for three days but I had a good time. It was my first visit to Amsterdam and I have to admit that this canal side city surprised me in many ways.
The city architecture is beautiful with colourful buildings, boats and bikes everywhere.

Plenty of flowers, clogs, cheeses, vintage shops and even Christmas shops. The city symbol XXX on every corner.

I visited Ann Frank house, Van Gogh museum, Van Gogh 3D exhibition and Heineken Experience.

The city slogan ‘I amsterdam’ worth to see as well with a lovely park and place to relax in the sun.

If you are planning to stay for longer it’s worth to look at I amsterdam City Card, which provides over 30 free museums and attractions or discounts on attractions, restaurants and one free canal cruise. It also offers unlimited use of public transport. Good deal for money.
More info I amsterdam.

However there are plenty of tourist traps, especially around central station, so be aware. In case of shopping and sales Amsterdam is not as good as London, so don’t think about saving money on shopping there.

On 10th of August there will be a festival Loveland and at the moment Dj’s do tour bus for free with a warmup before the festival. Full line up for the Loveland : Loveland Line Up.
Lucky to see for example Tiefschwarz live!!

Street Art Amsterdam

brickmum

My weekend in Amsterdam was all about street art! Finally I had time to relax after all the hard work at University. However instead of resting it was a lot of walking and looking for street art.

The city if full of surprises and you never know what’s behind a corner. There are plenty of galleries where you can purchase some really interesting pieces of street art.

Without knowing where to look for I think I collected some good pictures
and I found c215 and Space Invader!

I also like the Amsterdam artist HeroDeJaneiro, which I found in plenty of places.
Being lost and walking without a map definitely helps to find some great street art.
